“SONG OF THE HEART” Saturday 30th. March. 11am - 9pm

Chloe Goodchild and Rebecca Nash

Inspired by Rumi love poetry renowned devotional singer and innovative voice teacher Chloe Goodchild and Rebecca Nash, acclaimed Jazz composer and performer, bring us their latest musical offerings, opening with “The Deep Listening”.

Nikki Slade

Kirtan is the ancient devotional art of Sanskrit shared call and response.  A pioneering natural voice facilitator and renowned Kirtan leader, Nikki connects us with our true inner voice.

Michael Ormiston and Candida Valentino

As well as overtone and undertone singing acclaimed multi instrumentalist  Michael and Candida play Tibetan singing bowls, the Turkish ney flute and Shamanic drums, with music around Rumi poetry.

Sandira Michael

Sound healing works on many different levels. Leading practitioner, Sandira Michael, plays Tibetan gongs and crystal singing bowls. With the body relaxing totally, their sacred sounds allow us to let go and connect with our true selves.

The Study Society Dervish Turning and Sufi Poetry

In the 13thC. poet and mystic Jalaluddin Rumi established his Dervish order and the whirling dance of the Sema.  This potent method of experiencing both inner stillness and opening the heart, the Dervish Turning was brought to the Study Society by a Turkish Sheikh in 1963 for us to care for, nurture and teach it, and we do.  A Sufi poetry sharing followed by an open Turning Ceremony are held at The Study Society the first Friday of every month.

Vedic Chanting and Meditation

Known thousands of years ago, the recitation of the hymns of the Vedas is a sophisticated form of music and one of the oldest of unbroken oral traditions which remains to this day.

The Study Society’s Colet House Vedic Chanting Group meets on Monday evenings followed by a half hour’s silent meditation.

Movements Music

We hear music from these sacred dances, exercises and prayer which bring stillness in movement. Originally collected from across the Middle East and Central Asia by I.Gurdjieff, the Movements have been taught at the Study Society for over 70 years.
